On Friday, June 21st, Support Unlimited UK held a celebratory event at Christchurch Park to commemorate Learning Disabilities Awareness Week 2024. Support Unlimited UK, a local organization dedicated to providing specialist support services for individuals with learning disabilities, autistic persons, and people with various mental health conditions, hosted this event.
The theme for this year’s Learning Disabilities Awareness Week was “Do you see me?” This theme emphasizes the numerous barriers people with learning disabilities face regarding societal inclusion and having their individual needs met.
The event aimed to celebrate individuals with learning disabilities and acknowledge the key partners who support them, including family members, friends, best interest advisors, social workers, and other professionals working alongside Support Unlimited UK in the field of Learning Disabilities.
A variety of outdoor activities were organized, including football, various field races such as a three-legged race, and tug of war. The highlight of the day was the Zumbathon. All activities were personalized to ensure maximum participation for clients with various learning disabilities, making it an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The event was a fantastic and uplifting celebration, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
